Overview

Cross the Takhtakaracha Mountain Pass to Shahrisabz, Amir Timur's hometown and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stop for photos on the pass and at a roadside dried-fruit market. See the giant arch of Ak-Saray Palace, Dorus Saodat with the empty crypt Timur prepared for himself, and the blue-domed Kok-Gumbaz Mosque in the Dorut Tilovat complex. On the way back, have lunch at a restaurant on the pass known for tandir lamb (paid on site). Group tour: meet your driver in front of the Gur-e-Amir Mausoleum at 9:00 am. An English-speaking guide joins you in Shahrisabz. If fewer than 3 travelers book your date, it runs as a private tour at no extra cost and the guide drives you. Private with guide: hotel pickup in Samarkand and an English-speaking guide in Shahrisabz. Private without guide: hotel pickup. The driver speaks Uzbek and Russian, not English.
